Research participants
Working with Age Concern Hamilton, Rauawaawa Kaumatua Charitable Trust, and Age Concern Manawatu, as well as other community groups, we invited kaumatua and other elders to participate in the research.
Kaumatua and other elders, aged between 55 and 96 years, worked with us throughout the research. They:
- Talked about their experiences with organisations;
- Kept diaries of their interactions with organisations;
- Attended workshops to discuss their satisfying and dissatisfying experiences;
- Helped to identify:
- What elders themselves could do to make their interactions more satisfying
- What organisations could do to make elders' dealings more satisfying.
Organisational representatives also talked about their dealings with elders. We worked jointly with managers, frontline staff, and elders to develop a framework of 'age-aware' practices. See our Getting On brochures.
Overall, more than 600 participants living in the Waikato, Manawatu, or Bay of Plenty, were involved in the research.
