Submitting Your Report
(MCOM399s, MKTG399s, 499s & 599s)
When you have finished your report, web submit it as a final draft via your assignments on your MyWeb 499/599 Paper page, to your supervisor and second assessor. You will also need to hand in two hard copies of your final draft direct to your supervisor. They will review this draft and give you feedback. Use their comments to edit your report to the FinalReport stage. (Final Draft: This information does not apply to MKTG399-10B (HAM) - Marketing Communication Investigation. Please check your Paper page on MyWeb for MKTG399-10B (HAM) - Marketing Communication Investigation final draft submission details).
Your Final Report will need to be submitted as a PDF file online via MyWeb. Once you have converted your file to a PDF version the next step will be to fill in a Final Report Verification form online and print off a coversheet. In addition print two copies of the report and have these spiral bound with the formal Waikato Management School 499/599 covers. These must be handed in to MSC, along with the coversheet you print once you have completed your online Final Report Verification form via MyWeb, and the sponsor/student consent form.

Submission Process
Convert Final Report To PDF file
Before submitting the two hard copies of your 499 Final Report in to MSC (Management Student Centre), you must convert your report to a PDF file. Once you have saved your report as a PDF file you need to fill in an online Final Report Verification Form. You can create a PDF version of your report from within Microsoft Word 2007 in the Waikato Management School student computer labs. To do this, complete the following steps: Within Word 2007
- Go the to the Microsoft Office button and chose Save As, PDF or XPS
- A "Save as" dialog box appears. Move to an appropriate drive.
- Name the file, and under "Save as type", ensure that PDF is selected.
- Click on Publish.
- Check the PDF document that appears.
Similarly, you can create PDFs from Excel spreadsheets. However, the final PDF should be just one file.
Alternatively, there are some free PDF creators you can download.
Whichever method you use, please check the final file. Sometimes graphics and equations in your report can become scrambled. If you have any queries, please contact the 499 Office.
Step Two:
Final Report Verification
Once you have saved your Final Report as a PDF file you need to submit it with the online Final Report Verification form. To complete the form go into your 499 Paper on MyWeb and click on the Final Report Verification link, under Assignments. This form allows you to submit the PDF version of your report and confirm the information the 499 Office holds about your report, to enter your project title, word count, and other important information You must submit this information, along with the PDF version of your report, and print a copy of the coversheet generated to sign and hand in with your report. Your report will not be accepted without this coversheet for verification.
Please note that 499/599 Final Reports are only handed in to the front counter, Management Student Centre. The Final Report is not to be handed in to your supervisors.
The 499 Office takes no responsibility for Reports unless there is a signed Final Report Verification coversheet handed in with the bound copies. You may ask for a signed, dated, and stamped copy of your coversheet when you hand in your report to the Management Student Centre for your own records.
Extension to Final Report Hand In Date
If you have been given an extension to your Final Report due date – the new date needs to be entered by your supervisor on the online system; otherwise you will be unable to submit your Final Report as your due date will have passed. Please contact your supervisor to change your final due date online if you have this problem.
Students should make sure that they keep both a hard and electronic copy of their report. Reports handed in for grading ARE NOT RETURNED.
Posting Your 499/599
If you are unable to hand in your Final Report to MSC yourself, you may post it. All requirements remain the same when posting, so be sure to check the report checklist before you do so. Address your report to: The 499 Office, Waikato Management School. Click here for full address details.
Sponsors Report
Presenting your findings and recommendations to your sponsor is a very important part of completing your research. Exactly how this is done will depend on what is negotiated between the sponsoring organisation and the student, but your sponsor should always receive a bound copy of your Final Report. An oral presentation may also be appropriate.
Professional Indemnity
A 499/599 Report of an Investigation Disclaimer of Liability form should be bound into the front of ALL 499/599 reports (after your title page). This form has been provided to protect students and the University of Waikato from professional indemnity claims. Professional indemnity is when a client (sponsor) or third party has suffered loss as a result of advice given by a professional (supposedly the student) and seeks legal action and compensation. The work of students is not considered to be the work of professionals, unless privately arranged between the sponsor and the student. However, a contract of this nature should specify that the University of Waikato accepts no responsibility for the advice given by students. All 499 students MUST take DUE CARE when making recommendations or giving any advice, written or spoken, to sponsors and potential users of the 499 report.
Grading
Once you have submitted your final report, it is sent to be independently graded by both your supervisor and your second assessor. Grading may take up to six weeks, so take this into consideration if you need your 499/599 grade for graduation.
Once a grade has been agreed by your supervisor and second assessor, the 499 Office will process your grade. Your provisional grade should then become available on iWaikato and your MyWeb paper page within a week. (Alternatively, provisional grades are posted on the 499 Notice Board in the Management Student Centre (MSC)).
Please note that graded reports are not returned.

General Test of Business Understanding
This assessment is Compulsory.
This test is designed to determine your general understanding of business and management. It covers the content of all the core subjects in the BMS and includes questions on management for sustainability and general business knowledge. The School will use the information it obtains from your results on this test as part of a process designed to assess how well its programmes are meeting the BMS learning goals.
It is not necessary to study for this test. The test is simply designed to assess your business and management knowledge at the stage you are at in the BMS programme. When you finish the test you will immediately receive your score. We will also send you a letter later in the year to let you know how you were placed amongst all other students taking the test.
To pass your 499 (599) paper you need to take this test, but your mark on the test will not be part of your 499 (599) assessment. If you have a good reason for not being able to take this test, e.g. you are studying for this paper overseas, you can apply for an exemption. To apply for an exemption contact the Management Student Centre.
Note: You will be unable to graduate if you have not completed the General Test of Business Understanding.
