About Heather

Dr Heather Connolly is the Director of Engagement and Executive Education at Waikato Management School.

Prior to this position Heather was a senior lecturer in strategic management.

Her academic and research interests revolve around strategy and knowledge sharing, and transfer mechanisms as they relate to organisational governance and management.

"I’m interested in exploring why people act the way they do in their organisational contexts and how this influences organisational learning and development."

In her co-authored book, Addicted to Performance, Heather examines the challenge that leaders have today as they are trapped in the pursuit of the efficiencies necessary to satisfy society’s addiction to “more-for-less”. Their challenge is to confront the reality of their organisation’s current situation and circumstances and to recontextualise this reality into an emergent future; and then to devise ways to secure it.

Her teaching style seeks to challenge students to not only question the boundaries of theories and models and their application, but to also enhance their understanding through shared and collaborative exploration of subject matter. Creating an environment of inclusivity that allows students to engage in experiential rather than dictatorial learning is her objective.

An experienced management, risk management, compliance and assurance consultant with clients ranging from large listed companies and government agencies to SMEs, Heather is a regular speaker at academic, industry and sector-related conferences in Canada, Europe, Australia and New Zealand.
