About Vijay
Dr Vijay Kumar is Senior Lecturer in Finance at the School of Accounting, Finance and Economics at the University of Waikato. He gained his PhD from University of Waikato in 2018, with a thesis titled "The Profitability of Banking Sectors in the Asia-Pacific Region and Their Contributions to Economic Growth". He has done a master’s degree from the University of Bradford, United Kingdom.
Dr Kumar’s current research focuses on banking performance, bank efficiency, bank liquidity, financial inclusion, agribusiness, and housing economics. He has published in reputable peer-reviewed journals. He is the guest editor of the International Journal of Financial Studies for a special issue on "Banks and Profitability of Banks".
Dr Kumar has won number of external grants. He is currently working on a significant grant from Government of India for the project “Development of a Digital Platform for Financial Inclusion and Rural Women Empowerment”. He has also worked on multiple external projects for Government and private organisations in New Zealand, including Zespri International, Queen Elizabeth II National Trust, Road Transport Forum, New Zealand, AskYourTeam, Priority One, Waikato Regional Council and Hamilton City Council.
