Case synopsis |
The afternoon sun poured through the wide glass windows of the newly opened ‘Vista’ at the Zealong Tea estate, which also boasted a sprawling tea plantation, tea factory and restaurant. The Vista was the latest addition to the tea estate, located 10 minutes north of Hamilton, in the suburb of Gordonton. Local business leaders, tourist operators, Hamilton City council representatives, event managers and media representatives had been invited to the unveiling of the newest building on the 48 hectare estate. Before the gathered crowd stood marketing manager, Sen Kong and General Manager, Gigi Crawford. “Tea is steeped in history”, remarked Sen. “People have been drinking tea since the 2nd century BC”, he continued. “And even today it is second only to water as the most widely consumed beverage across the globe”, added Gigi, as the crowd nodded thoughtfully. At the mention of ‘global’, the two exchanged glances; the words from the board meeting earlier that day still ringing in their ears. After 8 years of developing the Zealong brand to be one synonymous with premium quality, the broader tea industry was on the cusp of a global renaissance. Sen and Gigi had walked away from the meeting with the task of navigating Zealong through this emerging opportunity, while simultaneously expanding the revenue generated from their services offered through the restaurant and vista. |
