48th Waikato Management School Case Competition

B Trimester 2020 - Company: Boating and Outdoors

Company Name

Boating & Outdoors, Supplies for the Kiwi Lifestyle logo

Case Synopsis

Boating and Outdoors formed as a buying group in the early 1990s from a group of small marine equipment retailers for the purpose of getting better deals on products they sold. By 2020 Boating and Outdoors had added marketing and website functions with contract staff providing co-ordination across the 24 stores within the group. However, the group had increasingly experienced issues as their ever increasing scale and complexity outgrew the relatively informal approach to co-ordination. Competition had intensified and the business landscape had evolved to create an opportune moment to step back and decide on the future of Boating and Outdoors.
