Acorn Foundation Eva Trowbridge Scholarship

Closing date: 30 Sep 2019

For students who are 25 years or older who reside in the areas administered by Tauranga City Council or Western Bay of Plenty District Council and are currently studying at the University of Waikato Tauranga Campus. The scholarship will have a value of $3,000.

Cambridge-Rutherford Memorial Scholarship

Closing date: 02 Aug 2018

The Cambridge-Rutherford Memorial PhD Scholarships are intended to provide full support to enable completion of a PhD at the University of Cambridge in pure or applied science. *This is an indicative amount, as the allowance is set annually by the Cambridge Commonwealth Trust to cover annual living expenses while studying at the University of Cambridge.

DairyNZ Masters Scholarship

Closing date: 10 Aug 2018

For students who are enrolled in the final year or have completed a Bachelors degree in Science, agricultural science, agricultural business or economics and are eligible to enrol in a masters degree at a New Zealand University. Up to three scholarships of $30,000 will be available each year + tuition fees.

Dr Zena Daysh Fellowship in Sustainable Development

For students enrolling or intending to enrol in a PhD at the University of Waikato with a research interest in a field relevant to sustainable development. Candidates may come from a range of academic disciplines, provided their research aligns with Dr Zena Daysh's mission to promote an holistic, integrative, and sustainable approach to development.

Flower Agribusiness Conference Participation Award

For students in their final year of undergraduate study or any other level of postgraduate study who will be presenting a research paper at a recognised agribusiness conference outlining their own research that pertains to agribusiness.

Freemasons Postgraduate Scholarship

For students who, in the year following application, will be enrolled full-time in a postgraduate qualification: Postgraduate Diploma, Master degree and Doctoral degree.The scholarship will have a value of $10,000.

Generation Study Abroad Excellence & Travel Awards

Education New Zealand and New Zealand tertiary institutions are supporting Generation Study Abroad students with excellence and travel awards. There are two different scholarships available to US Citizens for study in NZ; the Education NZ Study Abroad Travel Awards and the Generation Study Abroad NZ Universities Excellence Awards. Go Overseas Scholarship

For up to five European or US undergraduate or postgraduate students who are passionate about studying abroad in NZ. There are 8 participating New Zealand Universities and 13 institutes of technology/polytechnics. This scholarship is meant to encourage more students to seriously consider studying abroad in New Zealand.

HOPE Foundation Scholarship for Research on Ageing

For domestic students who are enrolled or intending to enrol full- or part-time in a Masters or Doctoral thesis at the University of Waikato in a topic related to ageing. Applications will be accepted from a wide range of disciplines in line with the HOPE Foundation's philosophy of encouraging eclectic research into ageing.

HRC Māori Health Research Opportunities

The Māori Health Research Summer Studentships are designed to introduce research to students studying health-related courses, and for those who would like to be involved in a Māori health research project over the summer period. Summer studentships are worth $5,000.

Michael Baldwin Memorial Scholarship

For citizens of any South Pacific Nation (excluding New Zealander and Australian citizens), who can demonstrate a need for financial support in order to undertake study. Candidates must be enrolled or intending to enrol in an approved full-time study. The scholarship is valued up to $10,000.

NASA internships and New Zealand Space Agency Scholarships

New Zealand Excellence Awards (NZEA)

The NZEA gives 35 Indian students the opportunity to pursue undergraduate or postgraduate study in New Zealand in the fields of business, fashion and STEM related programmes (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics). Each scholarship has a value of up to $10,000 (NZD) towards the first year tuition fees.

Raewyn Good Study Award for Māori and Pasifika Social Science Research

The study award, tenable at any New Zealand university/wānanga for one year is available to students, who at the time of application, are engaged/enrolled in or applying for a Master’s degree which involves undertaking social sciences research. The award will have a value of $6,000.

Rewi Alley Scholarship in Chinese Studies

For domestic students enrolled at any New Zealand university or other approved institution and are undertaking study on any aspect of life in China. The Scholarship will have a value of up to $1,000.

Sir Edmund Hillary Medal

Closing date: 30 Nov 2019

For current Sir Edmund Hillary Scholars who are completing their qualification in 2019 and who demonstrate a very high level of performance in either a sport or creative/performing art, outstanding academic achievement, and exceptional leadership.

Sir Edmund Hillary Senior Leader Scholarship

Closing date: 30 Nov 2019

For current or previous Sir Edmund Hillary Scholars only. Applicants must have graduated, or be expecting to graduate within the next six months, as a Sir Edmund Hillary Scholar and must be intending to enrol full- or part-time in a higher qualification at UoW in the year of tenure. A minimum grade average of A- for their most recent 120pts of study is required for eligibility.

Sir Robert Jones Scholarship

Closing date: 12 Aug 2019

For young women from refugee background to help them complete a university degree or tertiary qualification. Tuition fees will be paid in full through to degree attainment, subject to satisfactory examination results. Accommodation may be covered for the first two years of study if the successful applicant attends a tertiary institution outside of their home town.

Sparling Travel Award in Environmental Studies

Closing date: 30 Apr 2019

For students enrolled full-time in any level of postgraduate study and undertaking research in the area of environmental studies, natural sciences, or agricultural sciences, not including marine or volcanic studies. Applicants must be presenting a research paper at a recognised conference outlining their research. The Award will have a value of up to $5,000.

Sylff Research scholarship for Masters and PhD

Closing date: 01 Oct 2018

Scholarships are offered for study towards research in either a Masters or PhD degree in a wide range of disciplines, provided the research is in the broad fields of Humanities (ie. the study of human culture, especially literature, languages, history, art, music and philosophy) or Social Sciences (i.e. the scientific study of any aspect of social behaviour and/or the functioning of society).

TAPA (Tertiary Achievement in Pacific Ako) Awards

Closing date: 31 May 2019

For students who are New Zealand citizens or permanent residents and are of Pacific Island descent to pursue tertiary studies at the University of Waikato for a full academic year.

Tauranga Campus Research Masters Scholarship

Closing date: 31 Oct 2019

For students who have applied to enrol full-time in a thesis of 90-points or more as part of their first master's degree at the University of Waikato and will be based at the Tauranga campus. International applicants must have completed one full academic year (120-points) at a NZ university to be eligible to apply. If you do not meet this criteria, please do not submit an application.

The Bill & Joan Flower Agribusiness Masters Scholarship

Closing date: 30 Nov 2018

For domestic students who are applying to enrol full-time in a research paper as part of their first master's degree at the University of Waikato. The master's research must be focussed on agribusiness, agricultural marketing or the economics/financials of agribusiness. The Scholarship has a value of up to $5,500.

The Hamilton Club Scholarship in Health

Closing date: 01 Oct 2019

For domestic students who will be enrolled full-time in 2020 in either a graduate degree or the second year or above of an undergraduate degree in any school/faculty at UoW. Candidates for this Scholarship must be undertaking a programme of study in a health-related area that will contribute to the NZ health sector.

The NZ Commonwealth Doctoral Scholarships

Closing date: 29 Jul 2016

For students who are UK citizens who have at least an upper second class honours undergraduate degree (by the time they take up the scholarship) and have thoroughly researched the research programmes of the University of Waikato. Note: applicants with dual NZ/UK citizenship are ineligible to apply.

The Sir Hugh Kawharu Masters Scholarship for Innovation in Science

Closing date: 01 Sep 2018

For students studying at masters level in the sciences. The Scholarship is applicable across a broad range of science disciplines including the physical, mathematical and computational, earth, environment, marine, social, health, biological, biomedical, human, and behavioural sciences. The Scholarship has a value of $10,000.

The Thomas Pay-it-Forward Scholarship

Closing date: 15 Nov 2019

For NZ citizens and permanent residents who demonstrate financial and/or personal hardship and who, in 2020, will be enrolling full-time in the second year or above of their first undergraduate degree at the University of Waikato OR will be a full-time student completing either a Masters degree or a PhD at the University of Waikato.

University of Waikato Alumni Scholarship

Closing date: 01 Feb 2020

For students who are Alumni of the University of Waikato and who are 25 years or older at the time of application. Students must be intending to enroll full or part-time at the University of Waikato in A Semester 2020. The value of the award will be up to $2,000.

University of Waikato Doctoral Completions Scholarship

Closing date: 20 Nov 2017

For students nearing completion of their first PhD, DMA, EdD or SJD. Applicants must be submitting their soft bound thesis for examination between 1 December 2017 and 1 March 2018. The value of the scholarship will be up to $5,000.

University of Waikato Doctoral Scholarship

Closing date: 31 Jan 2020

It is only possible to apply for a UoW Doctoral Scholarship as part of the application to enrol process. That is why the 'Apply Now' button on the Scholarships page takes you to the University's application to enrol page. When applying to enrol in a PhD, DMA, EdD, or SJD, prospective students will be able to indicate that they wish to also be considered for a UoW Doctoral Scholarship.

University of Waikato George Mason Charitable Trust Scholarship

Expressions of Interest are sought from students who are intending to enrol full-time in a 120-point masters thesis or a PhD and have a particular interest in one of the specific research areas outlined.

University of Waikato International Excellence Scholarship

Closing date: Applications for 2020 can be submitted at any time

We are now accepting applications for 2020. For talented international students who demonstrate excellent academic achievement and the potential to become global ambassadors for the University of Waikato. Applicants must be intending to enrol at UoW for the first time in either an undergraduate or postgraduate degree and must have received a conditional or unconditional Offer of Place from UoW.

University of Waikato Research Masters Scholarship

Closing date: 31 Oct 2019

For students intending to enrol full-time in a 500-level thesis of 90 points or more as part of their first master's degree at the University of Waikato. International students must have completed at least 120 points of study at a New Zealand university in order to be eligible for this Scholarship.

University of Waikato Squash Scholarship

Closing date: 31 Mar 2019

For domestic students who are: genuine prospects for future representation-level Squash in the Waikato and/or NZ; members of a NZ Squash Federation affiliated club and/or playing representative Squash for Waikato in 2019; and enrolled part- or full-time in an undergraduate or graduate programme of study at the University of Waikato in 2019.

Waikato Graduate Women Educational Trust Dame Jocelyn Fish Award

Closing date: 30 Apr 2019

For female students who have been New Zealand Citizens or permanent residents for at least 2 years, and are enrolled full-time in the second year or above of a first degree, majoring in a non-traditional field for women (e.g. computer science, engineering, mathematics and technology. The value of the award is $1,000 and is tenable for the course of the degree up to a maximum of three years.

Waikato Graduate Women Educational Trust Dr Vivienne Cassie Cooper Award

Closing date: 30 Sep 2019

To enable women returning to study (full- or part-time) after a period in the paid or voluntary workforce or caring for family, to enrol for and complete a masters degree.

Waikato Graduate Women Educational Trust Masters Study Award

Closing date: 30 Apr 2019

For female students who are New Zealand Citizens or permanent residents for at least 2 years, who at the time of the application are enrolled full- or part-time in a masters thesis worth at least 90 points. The scholarship will have a value of $2,000.

Waikato Graduate Women Educational Trust Merit Award for Doctoral Study

Closing date: 30 Apr 2019

For females who have been New Zealand Citizens or permanent residents for at least 2 years, and who have been accepted by the Postgraduate Studies Committee of the University of Waikato for confirmed enrolment fulltime for a doctoral degree. The scholarship has a value of $3,000 a year for up to 3 years.

Wilf and Ruth Malcolm Doctoral Scholarship

Closing date: There is no closing date, and no application process.

Normally awarded every three years to a recipient of the University of Waikato Doctoral Scholarship who has the highest GPA and/or is most meritorious. The Scholarship will have a value of up to $26,000 pa, plus full (domestic) fees, for up to three years, and a research cost allowance of $6,000.

WSU John Houstoun Memorial Scholarship

Closing date: 30 May 2019

For students who are enrolled part- or full-time in their 2nd or subsequent year and have completed at least 120pts of study at Waikato and can demonstrate outstanding academic diligence and contribution to the student, cultural and sporting life of the University. The Scholarship will have a value of up to $2,500.

WSU Sole Parent/Caregiver Award

Closing date: 30 May 2019

For students who are enrolled part- or full-time at the University of Waikato and are the sole primary caregiver in their family. Students must also have completed at least one year of study at the University of Waikato. The scholarship will have a value of up to $1,000.
