Acorn Foundation Eva Trowbridge Scholarship

Closing date: 30 Sep 2018

For students who are 25 years or older who reside in the areas administered by Tauranga City Council or Western Bay of Plenty District Council and are currently studying at the University of Waikato Tauranga Campus. The scholarship will have a value of $3,000.

Cambridge-Rutherford Memorial Scholarship

Closing date: 02 Aug 2018

The Cambridge-Rutherford Memorial PhD Scholarships are intended to provide full support to enable completion of a PhD at the University of Cambridge in pure or applied science. *This is an indicative amount, as the allowance is set annually by the Cambridge Commonwealth Trust to cover annual living expenses while studying at the University of Cambridge.

DairyNZ Masters Scholarship

Closing date: 10 Aug 2018

For students who are enrolled in the final year or have completed a Bachelors degree in Science, agricultural science, agricultural business or economics and are eligible to enrol in a masters degree at a New Zealand University. Up to three scholarships of $30,000 will be available each year + tuition fees.

Dr Zena Daysh Fellowship in Sustainable Development

For students enrolling or intending to enrol in a PhD at the University of Waikato with a research interest in a field relevant to sustainable development. Candidates may come from a range of academic disciplines, provided their research aligns with Dr Zena Daysh's mission to promote an holistic, integrative, and sustainable approach to development.

Freemasons Postgraduate Scholarship

For students who, in the year following application, will be enrolled full-time in a postgraduate qualification: Postgraduate Diploma, Master degree and Doctoral degree.The scholarship will have a value of $10,000.

Gemini Trust Disability Scholarship

For students who have completed a minimum of 30 points of study at the University of Waikato and are enrolled part-or full-time at the University of Waikato in the year of tenure. The scholarship will have a value of up to $10,000.

Generation Study Abroad Excellence & Travel Awards

Education New Zealand and New Zealand tertiary institutions are supporting Generation Study Abroad students with excellence and travel awards. There are two different scholarships available to US Citizens for study in NZ; the Education NZ Study Abroad Travel Awards and the Generation Study Abroad NZ Universities Excellence Awards. HOPE-SELWYN Scholarship in Ageing Research

HRC Māori Health Research Opportunities

New Zealand Excellence Awards (NZEA)

The NZEA gives 35 Indian students the opportunity to pursue undergraduate or postgraduate study in New Zealand in the fields of business, fashion and STEM related programmes (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics). Each scholarship has a value of up to $10,000 (NZD) towards the first year tuition fees.

NZ Agricultural Fieldays Sir Don Llewellyn Scholarship

For New Zealand citizens and permanent residents enrolling at master’s or doctoral level study at the University of Waikato. Candidates must be undertaking research with a focus on the agricultural sector. The value of this Scholarship will be up to $22,000.

Raewyn Good Study Award for Māori and Pasifika Social Science Research

The study award, tenable at any New Zealand university/wānanga for one year is available to students, who at the time of application, are engaged/enrolled in or applying for a Master’s degree which involves undertaking social sciences research. The award will have a value of $6,000.

Rewi Alley Scholarship in Chinese Studies

For domestic students enrolled at any New Zealand university or other approved institution who are undertaking study on any aspect of life in China. The Scholarship will have a value of up to $1,000.

Sir Edmund Hillary Medal

Closing date: 30 Nov 2018

For current Sir Edmund Hillary Scholars who are completing their qualification in 2018 and who demonstrate a very high level of performance in either a sport or creative/performing art, outstanding academic achievement, and exceptional leadership.

Sir Robert Jones Scholarship

Closing date: 15 Aug 2016

For young women from refugee background to help them complete a university degree or tertiary qualification. Tuition fees will be paid in full through to degree attainment, subject to satisfactory examination results. Accommodation may be covered for the first two years of study if the successful applicant attends a tertiary institution outside of their home town.

Sparling Doctoral Completion Scholarship in Environmental Studies

Closing date: 31 Mar 2018

For students enrolled in a PhD in the area of environmental studies, natural sciences, but not marine or volcanic studies, in any faculty of relevance at the University of Waikato. Applicants must have completed at least three years of their thesis and be submitting their soft-bound thesis for examination within four years.

Step Higher Award

Closing date: 30 Apr 2018

For current Sir Edmund Hillary Scholars only. Applicants must demonstrate commitment to the Sir Edmund Hillary Scholarship Programme by continually meeting the requirements of the three pillars of the Scholarship. In particular, applicants must demonstrate leadership excellence, defined as ‘engaging others to strive for shared goals that positively impact the community’.

Sylff Research scholarship for Masters and PhD

Scholarships are offered for study towards research in either a Masters or PhD degree in a wide range of disciplines, provided the research is in the broad fields of Humanities (ie. the study of human culture, especially literature, languages, history, art, music and philosophy) or Social Sciences (i.e. the scientific study of any aspect of social behaviour and/or the functioning of society).

TAPA (Tertiary Achievement in Pacific Ako) Awards

For students who are New Zealand citizens or permanent residents and are of Pacific Island descent to pursue tertiary studies at the University of Waikato for a full academic year.

Te Pūtea Tautoko

For students of Māori ethnicity who are enrolled part- or full-time in the final year of an undergraduate, graduate, or postgraduate degree and who have proven academic potential but whose financial circumstances are severely constrained, or for whom there are other special circumstances which would make such an award a significant means of enhancing their academic success.

The Bill & Joan Flower Agribusiness Masters Scholarship

Closing date: 30 Nov 2018

For domestic students who are applying to enrol full-time in a research paper as part of their first master's degree at the University of Waikato. The master's research must be focussed on agribusiness, agricultural marketing or the economics/financials of agribusiness. The Scholarship has a value of up to $5,500.

The Hamilton Club Scholarship in Health

Closing date: 01 Oct 2018

For domestic students who will be enrolled full-time in 2019 in either a graduate degree or the second year or above of an undergraduate degree in any faculty at the University of Waikato. Candidates for this Scholarship must be undertaking a programme of study that is health-related.

The NZ Commonwealth Doctoral Scholarships

Closing date: 29 Jul 2016

For students who are UK citizens who have at least an upper second class honours undergraduate degree (by the time they take up the scholarship) and have thoroughly researched the research programmes of the University of Waikato. Note: applicants with dual NZ/UK citizenship are ineligible to apply.

The Sir Hugh Kawharu Masters Scholarship for Innovation in Science

Closing date: 01 Sep 2018

For students studying at masters level in the sciences. The Scholarship is applicable across a broad range of science disciplines including the physical, mathematical and computational, earth, environment, marine, social, health, biological, biomedical, human, and behavioural sciences. The Scholarship has a value of $10,000.

Trust Waikato Student Community Grants

Closing date: 15 Nov 2018

For students who are enrolled (full or part-time) in a course with a research component at 400-level or above at the University of Waikato. Research must involve at least one community or Not-For-Profit group. The value of the grants vary. Students can apply for a grant to cover research related costs.

University of Waikato Alumni Scholarship

Closing date: 01 Feb 2018

For students who are Alumni of the University of Waikato and are 25 years or older and are intending to enroll full or part-time at the University of Waikato in A Semester 2018. The value of the award will be up to $3,500.

University of Waikato Chiefs Doctoral Scholarship

Closing date: 31 Dec 2015

For students who enrolling in a PhD at the University of Waikato, who will undertake research in prescribed fields dictated by the Chiefs and expert researchers from the University. The Scholarship will have a value of up to $22,000 pa, plus domestic tuition fees, for up to three years. .

University of Waikato Chiefs Super Rugby Scholarship

For domestic students who will be contracted Chiefs rugby players in 2018 and who intend to enrol in either full-time or part-time study at the University of Waikato.

University of Waikato Doctoral Completions Scholarship

Closing date: 20 Nov 2017

For students nearing completion of their first PhD, DMA, EdD or SJD. Applicants must be submitting their soft bound thesis for examination between 1 December 2017 and 1 March 2018. The value of the scholarship will be up to $5,000.

University of Waikato Doctoral Scholarship

Closing date: 01 Nov 2018

When students apply to enrol in a PhD, DMA, EdD or SJD they will be asked to indicate whether they wish to be considered for a UoW Doctoral Scholarship on the Application to Enrol form. Applications will be considered in three rounds a year (1 March, 1 July and 1 November).

University of Waikato International Alumni Masters Scholarship - China

Closing date: No set closing date

Candidates must be an international alumnus of the University of Waikato, achieved a bachelors degree of a minimum of B- or equivalent and be domiciled in China at the time of application.

University of Waikato Research Masters Scholarship

Closing date: 31 Oct 2018

For students intending to enrol full-time in a 500-level thesis of 90 points or more as part of their first master's degree at the University of Waikato. International students must have completed at least 120 points of study at a New Zealand university in order to be eligible for this Scholarship.

University of Waikato Squash Scholarship

Closing date: 31 Mar 2018

For domestic students who are: genuine prospects for future representation-level Squash in the Waikato and/or NZ; members of a NZ Squash Federation affiliated club and/or playing representative Squash for Waikato in 2018; and enrolled part- or full-time in an undergraduate or graduate programme of study at the University of Waikato in 2018.

Waikato DHB Master’s Scholarship: Healthy People – Excellent Care

Closing date: 10 May 2018

For domestic students intending to enrol part- or full-time in either a 90-point or 120-point Master's thesis at UoW. Applicants must be conducting research with links to one or both of the Waikato DHB's strategic imperatives: 1) Health equity for high need populations, 2) Effective and efficient care and services. Applicants should apply prior to commencing their Master's thesis.

Waikato Graduate Women Educational Trust Dame Jocelyn Fish Award

For female students who have been New Zealand Citizens or permanent residents for at least 2 years, and are enrolled full-time in the second year or above of a first degree, majoring in a non-traditional field for women (e.g. computer science, engineering, mathematics, The value of the award is $1,000 and is tenable for the course of the degree up to a maximum of three years.

Waikato Graduate Women Educational Trust Dr Vivienne Cassie Cooper Award

To enable women returning to study (full- or part-time) after a period in the paid or voluntary workforce or caring for family, to enrol for and complete a masters degree.

Waikato Graduate Women Educational Trust Masters Study Award

For female students who are New Zealand Citizens or permanent residents for at least 2 years, who at the time of the application are enrolled full- or part-time in a masters thesis worth at least 90 points. The scholarship will have a value of $2,000.

Waikato Graduate Women Educational Trust Merit Award for Doctoral Study

Closing date: 30 Apr 2018

For females who have been New Zealand Citizens or permanent residents for at least 2 years, and who have been accepted by the Postgraduate Studies Committee of the University of Waikato for confirmed enrolment fulltime for a doctoral degree. The scholarship has a value of $3,000 a year for up to 3 years.

Wilf and Ruth Malcolm Scholarship

Closing date: There is no closing date, and no application process.

Normally awarded every three years to a recipient of the University of Waikato Doctoral Scholarship who has the highest GPA and/or is most meritorious. The Scholarship will have a value of up to $26,000 pa, plus full (domestic) fees, for up to three years, and a research cost allowance of $6,000.

WSU John Houstoun Memorial Scholarship

Closing date: 30 May 2018

For students who are enrolled part- or full-time in their 2nd or subsequent year and have completed at least 120pts of study at Waikato and can demonstrate outstanding academic diligence and contribution to the student, cultural and sporting life of the University. The Scholarship will have a value of up to $2,500.

WSU Sole Parent/Caregiver Award

Closing date: 30 May 2018

For students who are enrolled part- or full-time at the University of Waikato and are the sole primary caregiver in their family. Students must also have completed at least one year of study at the University of Waikato. The scholarship will have a value of up to $1,000.
