Which elective papers can I take
What elective papers can I take and do they have to be within Waikato Management School?
Elective papers can be any papers at Level 100 offered at the University of Waikato, excluding Law and Professional Education papers.
NZICA- Do I have to take ACCT102?
Students who have passed accounting at Bursary level do not need to take this paper. However students who have not obtained Bursary accounting will need to study this paper in their Bachelor of Management Studies degree.
Can I change my major subjects
Can I change my major at any time if I started a subject but don't like it?
You can change your major at any time during your bachelor's degree. However it is best to decide on you major subject/s by the end of your first year to avoid having to complete any extra papers in your degree to meet the regulations of your major/s.
Signing up for tutorials
There are two ways to enrol in tutorials.
- In The Computer Labs
- Via MyWeb
- In The Computer Labs
- Enter 'Tutorial' in the username box when logging on. You won't need a password.
- Enter your ID number and your barcode from your ID card. Click on Find. The papers you are enrolled in should then appear. (If the papers are incorrect you will need to see a MSC Advisor).
- Double click on the appropriate paper, and choose the Tutorial, Seminar, Workshop option.
- Highlight the time you wish to attend, and click on Join. (You can see who else is in that particular tutorial, or withdraw from a tutorial time slot by clicking on the appropriate buttons.)
- Click on Exit.
Note: You can provisionally join tutorials for papers you are changing into by clicking 'Add' on the first screen.
Note: This does not mean that you are enrolled in this paper. You will still need to go through the formal Change of Programme procedure.

- Click on the Timetable or Groups link for each paper
- Click on the radio button next to the time you want to have your tutorial. A window will come up telling you which group you have joined.
Put money on my Unicash account
Where and how can I put money on to my ID card/Unicash account?
In the computer labs or at MSC, go to the terminal with the EFTPOS kiosk. Follow the instructions on screen to transfer money from your bank account to your Unica$h account.

What are the online tests
As part of the Waikato Managment School's Assurance of Learning programme, students enrolled in specfic papers are required to sit online test to demonstrate their abilities to recall information that they are currently and have previously studied.
If you are enrolled in a Bachelor of Management Studies with Honours you will be required to sit online tests as part of your 499 paper. There are two online tests, one is a general management knowledge test and the other one a subject specific test (the area that you have chosen for your main major).
If you are enrolled in a Bachelor of Business Analysis, you will be required to sit online tests as part of your work experience/business applications paper.
How can I borrow equipment
Where can I borrow video cameras, still cameras, etc?
Video cameras, still cameras and other audio and electronic equipment can be borrowed from the ITS Helpdesk Counter located in the ITS building (the other side of the lake that is next to the Uni Rec Centre). You can phone them to book equipment on (07) 858 5000.
Can I transfer from another faculty
What are the entry requirements for Waikato Management School if I'm transferring from another faculty/school within the University of Waikato?
To transfer to Waikato Management School from another school of study within the University of Waikato you will need to have completed one year of study in a degree programme and have obtained a B grade average over the papers you studied.
Please note: Students who are studying in Foundation Studies or the Certificate of University Preparation (CUP) have different entry requirements.

Summer School papers
When can I enrol for Summer School?
All returning students can apply to enrol for Summer School via iWaikato.
What does Study link class as full time study over Summer School?
To be full-time in Summer School alone you need at least 0.175 EFTs (over the 6-week summer school).
If you apply for Summer School and A and B Semester in one application then you need 0.8 EFTs for the whole period.
Apply for an overseas exchange
How can I become eligible for an Overseas Exchange?
Students must have done at least one year of full-time study and obtained at least a B grade average in these papers to be accepted into overseas universities. Click here for more information about studying abroad.
How do I get into Honours year
How do I get into honours?
Students with a clear B+ average or better will be invited into the BMS(Hons) or BBus(Hons) or BCS(Hons) degree.
A B average in the BMS(Hons) satisfies the admission requirements for the Master of Management Studies at Waikato Management School. Successful completion of BMS(Hons) degree may also allow you direct entry into Master's Degrees at other New Zealand Universities.
The Class of honours awarded is formally recognised on you degree certificate.
Should I apply for Honours or will I be invited?
An invitation programme is only run at the end of B semester. Students who are eligible at this time are invited into the programme. However, if you have not met all the requirements for entry at the end of B semester you will not be automatically invited, therefore you need to apply via an application form. If you wish to commence Honours at other times, that is after summer school and the end of A semester, you must apply by filling in an application form and hand it to the Management Student Centre. Applications should be received at least two weeks prior to the commencement of the semester in which you intend to commence Honours.
The Bachelor of Communication Studies (Honours) and Bachelor of Business (Honours) degrees follow on from the majors taken in degree study. Students who wish to enrol in the Bachelor of Communication Studies (Honours) or Bachelor of Business (Honours) must have completed their Bachelor of Communication Studies or Bachelor of Business at the University of Waikato or have an equivalent qualification. They should also normally have a B+ grade average in the major subject that they intend to take at honours level.
Am I eligible for the BMS with Honours programme or BMS(Hons)?
The entry requirements for admittance to the BMS(Hons) degree are:
- The completion of 24 papers including at least 12 papers above Level 1, of which at least four must be above Level 2;
- The completion of all of the Level 1, 2 and 3 compulsory paper requirements for the BMS degree; and
- A Grade Point Average (GPA) of at least 6.
The entry requirements for admittance to the BMS with Honours programme are:
- The completion of 22 papers including at least 12 papers above Level 1, of which at least four must be above Level 2;
- The completion of all of the Level 1, 2 and 3 compulsory paper requirements for the BMS degree; and
- A Grade Point Average (GPA) of at least 5.
Graduate qualifications
What do I need to have to qualify for entry to graduate programmes?

How many papers is the Graduate Diploma? What levels can I take?
Six undergraduate papers (120 points) must be taken at Level 2 or above. Of these six papers at least three must be taken at Level 3 or 4.
The Graduate Diploma may be completed in one year of full-time study or over a longer period of part-time study.
If I have completed a Graduate Diploma can I go on to further study without an undergraduate degree?
I have only completed a graduate diploma with no undergraduate degree then you cannot progress to postgraduate study. However if you do three graduate diplomas (3 years of study) then you may be eligible to progress onto postgraduate study.
How many papers is the postgraduate diploma? What levels can I take?
There are four Level 5 papers (120 points) in the postgraduate diploma. However, for some diplomas two papers at Level 3 or 4 may be substituted for one Level 5 paper.
A Postgraduate may be completed in one year of full-time study or over a longer period of part-time study.
How many papers is the Master of Management Studies (MMS) programme? What papers can I take?
Students enrolled in the MMS degree must normally complete four Level 5 papers (120 points) including a dissertation (one, two or three papers) or thesis (four papers).
The MMS may be completed in one year of full-time study or over a longer period of part-time study.
Portfolio of Achievement
Waikato Management School has an Assurance of Learning programme as part of their accreditation requirements.
If you're enrolled in either a Postgraduate Diploma or a Masters qualification with us then you'll need to submit a Portfolio of Achievement by selecting your best work in the papers taken for the qualification
Your portfolio will contain work that has already been completed and assessed that you believe best represents the central learning objectives of the qualification. The Portfolio should consist of a minimum of three assessment items. These three items should be drawn from at least two papers.
If you have completed a dissertation or thesis, then different chapters or sections of work can be submitted as separate items of assessment.
The Portfolio of Achievement must be submitted online (via MyWeb - "My Portfolio" link), and will be available for you to use to demonstrate your prowess and impress your future employer.
Q: I submitted a Portfolio for my Postgraduate Diploma and I am now enrolled in my Masters - do I have to submit another Portfolio for my Masters?
A: Yes, you'll need to submit a Portfolio for each separate qualification.
